Why timeshare resales?
For most people, their first introduction with timeshares comes while on vacation, when someone
suggests that they can go to a 'presentation'. The word 'timeshare' is usually not mentioned at first.
There may be any of a number of rewards for attending the presentation; they might include a
significant discount on the car rental, free dinners, cash vouchers, free or discounted activities,
and hotel stays at a discounted rate.
Although the presentation is supposed to last only 90 minutes, people usually need to wait
for the sales person, fill out paperwork, possibly take transportation to a remote location,
and the presentation itself will usually go into overtime, so the 90 presentation becomes
an activity taking up an entire morning or an entire afternoon.
During the presentation, the salesperson will endlessly crunch numbers, demonstrating between
a shadow of a doubt, that you will save tremendous amounts of money by buying the timeshare
unit at the developer's prices.
Many people are swayed, but needless to say, the freebies do not come free. Marketing and
sales costs constitute about half of the sale price of the unit. ie. Half of the sales price
goes towards paying the freebies, the salesperson's commission, the developer's profit, and
other sales and marketing costs.
The 'real' value for many timeshare units is usually significantly less than what the developers
are charging.
But a great many saavy individuals, realize, that with the power of the internet, it is possible
to buy a timeshare without having to pay the developer markup. How? By buying a
timeshare resale ! The resale market brings
timeshare buyers and sellers together, without high-pressure sales tactics or freebies
that ultimately cost you thousands. It is on the resale market that you have the more
accurate expression of a timeshare's intrinsic value.
Tens of thousands of individuals and families buy timeshare resales every year and save thousands
compared to having bought from the developer. They ensure themselves and their families many years
of vacationing pleasure without the limited space and high cost of hotel rooms. And best of all,
the timeshare resale market gives timeshare owners an opportunity to get out from a timeshare which
they may no longer be interested in at a fair price.
We can only hope that as the knowledge of the prices that timeshares are fetching on the resale
market becomes more widespread, timeshare developers will bring their own prices more in line
with that of the resale market.
